Munster Band Volunteers

Empowering young musicians to achieve greatness through discipline, teamwork, and passion for music.

VOLUNTEER WITH THE BAND!

Parent volunteering with the MHS Band is an incredibly rewarding experience! The Band Backers plan and coordinate many of the activities related to the band program. We assist students with uniforms, prepare props for the shows, load and unload props at the shows, and coordinate celebrations. We also do a lot of fundraising! To accomplish all of this, we need a strong parent base. Please see the list of committees and coordinator opportunities and consider volunteering to help!

CONCESSIONS COMMITTEE

The Concessions Committee will plan and coordinate all concession events throughout the year. This includes acquiring donated items, shopping for and preparing food, and scheduling volunteers to work the event. Our yearly events are: Band Camp Student Lunch (July), Football Tailgate (September or October), and two day Craft Fair at MHS (December).

DINING FOR DOLLARS

The Dining for Dollars Committee coordinates monthly dining nights at local restaurants. The Committee Chair contacts restaurant managers, schedules the dining night and discusses band profit. The committee advertises the dining nights on social media and on the band app. Frequent social media reminders for dining nights are essential. This is a two person or family job.

FUNDRAISING & DONATION COMMITTEE

This committee handles all sponsorship requests and coordinates donations. Members will solicit local businesses to sponsor the band and/or purchase advertisement space on our Facebook page. webpage, drum major stand at football games, etc. They will also coordinate donations received from the businesses and organizations supporting the band; and work with the Band Backers Board Members to plan fundraisers benefitting the band and student accounts.

PROM GRAND MARCH

This event involves decorating the MHS Field House and collecting entry fees for the Grand March before prom. Members will find out the theme for the dance and decorate based on that theme. Coordination with custodial staff in advance is required. Background music needed.

PROPS CREW:

The Props Crew helps the band move equipment and instruments on and off the field for performances and loads/unloads the semi before/after competitions. Members of this committee should be able to commit to attending most of the marching competitions. The Props Crew Committee Chair works with band directors to staff the crew for competitions.

PUBLICITY COORDINATOR

The publicity coordinator publicizes band events and handles the social media for the Band Backers. They will work closely with the board and reach out to the local businesses on behalf of the organization to ‘get the word out.’

RAISE RIGHT FUNDRAISING

The Raise Right Coordinator oversees online gift card orders, with percentages donated directly to band student. accounts. Some coordination with the Band Backers Treasurer is needed.

SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE

The Munster Band Backers offer two, one-time $500 scholarships to qualified seniors. This position cannot be filled by a senior parent. Coordinators publicize the contest (usually in March & April), secure the judging by outside individuals, collect entries and facilitate the notification and announcement of the winners. The winners are announced at the Band Banquet.

SENIOR NIGHT COORDINATOR

The Senior Night Coordinator secures a photographer for the night and prepares the list of student/parent names for the announcers; orders flowers for the parents and blankets for the students. They will also need to have the student pictures taken in uniform in advance and posters printed for the stadium fence.

SPRING BANQUET COMMITTEE

This committee is responsible for putting together our Spring Banquet, which usually takes place in late April or Early May. Duties include gathering student input, securing the venue, choosing the menu, sending the invitations, coordinating the senior gifts, decorating and clean up on the day of the event.

UNIFORM COMMITTEE

The Uniform Chairperson orders items for the marching season and orders concert attire. Committee members measure and fit students for uniforms and concert wear, alter uniforms where needed and coordinate uniform cleanings during and at the end of the season. Committee members are also available at performances to assist students and mend uniforms if needed. This is a great way to get to know the students!

WATER/ICE COMMITTEE

The Water/Ice Committee ensures that coolers are loaded with ice and water bottles onto buses or trailer for every competition day in September, October and early November. Water should also be available at football games. Bottled water is donated by band families during band camp. This is a two person or family job. Attendance at the competitions is not required in this role.

WEBSITE & GRAPHIC DESIGN

The website and graphic designer works with the directors and board members to keep information up to date on the website, as well as developing logos and marketing materials.

SK COMMITTEE
